Bring Hand Sanitiser

As we all know the sales of hand sanitiser has been going through the roof after the corona-virus hit the world. Many places are sold out because people buy tons and tons of it. When that’s said. If you travel far or locally, bringing a bottle of hand sanitiser is SO important. Do you always bring a bottle with you? We always pack hand sanitiser with us. Even long before the corona virus hit the world. You do get in contact with a lot of bacterias and people when you travel. You touch surfaces that many have touched before you. And by having a bottle of hand sanitiser with, you make your hands more safe. Have you ever experienced no soap available while on vacation somewhere? We’re hundred present sure you have. Having hand sanitiser with you at least kills the bacterias. And is a MUST until you find somewhere where you can use soap. These days, with the corona virus around – it’s even more important to clean you hands, use hand sanitisers and be aware of not touching your face, mouth or eyes.

Travel In The Off-Season

The most money saving travel hack is to try to travel in the off-season! Outside of all holidays you’ll be able to find much cheaper tickets. If you have flexibility when it comes to departure and return days as well, you can often book tickets for more than half the price! Tuesdays and Wednesdays are on average the cheapest days to travel. Can you book tickets off-season? We love to travel in the spring and fall. That way we can stay in Norway for the summer period. Then the chances to get nice weather and temperatures are much higher. And when the weather is nice – there’s no place better than home. In the spring and fall when the temperatures are lower, it’s amazing to travel to somewhere warm! Do you feel the same?

We also love to travel in the winter. Make sure you travel outside of Christmas vacation and other school vacations to get the best prices available. Winter vacations with ski or snowboard activities are most of the time quite expensive. If you have the possibility to take your own gear with you, borrow a cabin from someone you know or check out Air-bnb -that will save you a lot of money.

Use Skyscanner To Save Time And Money

We’ve mentioned it before, and we’ll mention it again. The A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y best tool for fining cheap flights are www.skyscanner.com! <– Click on the link to check it out straight away! You can search for a specific city or country. You can search for all destinations from your start-out point. You can search on specific dates. Or you can search on a whole month and choose the cheapest date. You can even search for combined travels where you start from one destination, continue to the next one and fly home from a third one! Skyscanner will search it all up for you. You can choose many different ways to display the result. For instance you can sort your result on price low or high, on star-ratings or on total travel-time length.

Skyscanner saves you both time and money. You don’t have to search on multiple sites first and then compare all prices to find the cheapest one anymore. You’ll also save money because you can choose the cheapest day to travel!

Always Bring A Pillow And Blanket

Do you struggle to sleep onboard flights, trains and busses? The best travel hack to make sure you have the best possible sleeping conditions are to bring a big, comfy pillow and a blanket to keep you warm. The experts on sleeping-while-traveling say that you need to make sure your routine for sleeping is as close to your normal routine as possible. So, if you pack your toothbrush with you. Brush your teeth. Put your head down on your big comfy pillow. And pull your blanket over yourself. In an as flat position as possible (in the small space you have). That’ll give you the best possible sleeping conditions. And the chances that you’ll actually fall a sleep are much bigger.

We know bringing a “big” pillow is sometimes not doable. But, as big as your luggage allows it to be should be better than nothing.

Flying during the day. Or during the night. What do you prefer? For long flights, we generally prefer night flights. When you’re naturally tired it’s much easier to fall a sleep. And if you manage to sleep some hours, the flight doesn’t feel that long. For shorter flights we prefer day flights. 1, 2 or 3 hours is no problem to do during the day. Spend the time reading or watching movies or series.

I’ve (Jeanette) told you this before, and some of you might don’t understand it. I really like long flights! Or, actually long and short. The reason is that I usually feel that I have too much to do. And that I never have the time to sit down to do it. But, when I board a flight. I know I have to sit there until we land. So, I work on new blog posts. I go through our house budget. I read. And I watch movies. And I feel really relaxed knowing that I have to sit there for these x number of hours.

Travel With Fancy Clothes- Why?

Why? Why should you travel with fancy clothes? Because. Traveling with fancy clothes makes the chance higher that you’ll be picked out to move to business class. (If the flight is overbooked). Because it’ll look like you belong there. And who doesn’t want to fly business class?

Now, we’re not saying you should travel in an uncomfortable suit. Try to keep your clothes fancy, but still comfortable.

Take An Empty Water Bottle With You

Taking an empty water bottle with you is always clever. Preferably a reusable one. Most airports and train stations have spots where you can fill it up. Just make sure you drink it up so it’s empty when you go through security at the airports. Then you can fill it up again once you get on the inside. And when you’re onboard your flight you can ask the flight attendants to fill it up for you. That way you don’t have to ask for a glass of water every two minute. Do you make sure you drink enough while you travel? Onboard flights the air is quite dry. So, it’s even more important to drink enough water. If you’re addicted to water and really drinks a lot always like me, you won’t survive a flight without a bottle of water.

Ask For An Upgrade At The Airport

If you don’t ask, you’ll never know. Asking if it’s possible to get an upgrade is done in a few seconds. The worst thing that can happen is that they’ll say no. But, what if they say yes? Then you’ll have a great trip! So, go ahead and ask the next time you check in.

Wear Your Glasses For Long-Haul Flights

Do you normally use lenses? Then you should always, always bring your glasses on long-haul flights. The air onboard will dry your eyes out so much, that you’ll be wanting to take out your lenses before you’ve finished the flight. The best thing will probably be if you travel the whole way with your glasses on. That way your eyes won’t dry out that much. Protect your eyes, always!

Visit A Airport Lounge

This “secret” is something that many travellers don’t want to become something that everyone knows. But, we’ll tell it to you anyway! Did you know that you can pay to enter many airport lounges even though you’re not a qualified member? Most people don’t! And the price for entering many of the lounges are just 150-250 NOK (15-25 Euro)! It’s often even cheaper if you book your entry and pay for it online instead of at the entry counter.

Once inside you can eat and drink as much as you want. So, instead of paying for a meal. A beer (or five). Drinks. Coffee. Water. Fruit. Snacks. And so on. You can better pay the entry price and get into one of the many lounges! There you’ll find a quiet and relaxing atmosphere where you can relax while waiting for your flight. Most of the time they offer self-service. That way you can take a stroll and pick out what you want to eat. Some have lighter meals. And some offer a full dinner buffet. Many lounges also have areas or offices where you can work and take phone calls. They often have a gym. And the possibility to take a refreshing shower. All in all it’s much more worth your money than the stiff airport prices you’ll find in the busy departure halls! Will you check out a lounge the next time you travel?

Bring Food & Snacks With You

As we mentioned above, airport prices are sky high. On everything. So, one clever travel hack is to bring food and snack for the journey with you instead of buying everything in the airport departure hall. Or onboard. That way you can order a plane ticket without food. And most likely you’ll end up eating a better meal than what you’ll get served onboard! Just keep in mind that fluids above 100 ml can’t be taken through security. So, follow our hack Take An Empty Water Bottle With You. And fill it up once you’ve gone through security. Most food and snack are allowed to bring through security. So there you’ll be all good!

Invest In Noise-Canceling Headphones

The best investment we’ve EVER made, was our noise-canceling headphones. Now we don’t even understand how we managed without them before! Inside airports and airplanes there are a constant “buzz” from people chatting and from the ventilation running. The headphones block out everything from babies crying to people screaming or laughing out loud. They’re just AMAZING! Since we fly quite often we really, really see the difference. Now we arrive much more rested. Because we get to be inside our quiet, little bubble with our own music. With a small adapter you can even connect your headphones together and listen to the same music as your travel companion. Or watch a movie together! (At least with Bose you can). If there’s one thing you should invest in before flying, it’s one of these ones! They’re definitely worth your money.
