Picking out the perfect new sofa for your living room, TV room or den can be difficult. There’s so much to choose from and you’ll see something new and inspiring every day. These 4 steps will help you determine what’ll be the perfect sofa for you! Sofa’s can be quite expensive. Step 1: Room
Which room are you buying a new sofa for? The reason why you need a new sofa can be many. Maybe you’ve just moved into a new place? Or the old sofa you had has gotten too old? Anyhow. The room which you need a new sofa for will also determine what kind of sofa that you’ll need. A sofa that’ll fit perfect in a living room, might not be the one for your TV-room.
Step 2: Price
Deciding on what price range you want to be in, is very smart to do before you go out looking for a new sofa. If you’ve already decided that, then it’s much easier to stay within that budget once you go looking. That way you can already from the beginning look at only sofa’s that you’ll actually be able to buy. You can get almost the same sofa in both the cheap, the middle and the expensive range. That’s something to consider before buying a new sofa. It’s not always better quality just because it’s a famous brand or has a higher price.
Consider waiting and buying your new sofa at Black Friday or other big sales can totally be worth it. We bought our sofa at 50 % sales in January. And with the delivery time we got it delivered in the beginning of May. If you want to save some money, you definitely should wait for a sale. Make sure you order your sofa well in advanced if you’re buying a custom made one like we did. That is, if you’re moving or needing the sofa for a specific time!
Step 3: Size
Depending on which room you’re buying a sofa for, the size of it can differ. If it’s for your formal living room you might look for a more stiff sofa that’ll be perfect for sitting straight up and drinking a cup of coffee. If you’re looking for a sofa for your TV-room you’ll probably be looking for a sofa that’s much softer and perfect for chilling out and laying down while watching movies. An L-shaped sofa or a sofa with a chaise lounge will be perfect for your movie nights. And maybe a 2-seater and a 3-seater will be better for your formal living room. You also need to consider how many persons that’ll be using the sofa. Is it for a big family? Or only for the two of you? Many people= bigger sofa. One or two people= smaller sofa.
Step 4: Fabric & Style
The fabric for your new sofa can be picked out of many different colours and structures. You can look at the lates trends. Or what you find the most beautiful. The style of your sofa should follow and match the rest of your style. Don’t always look at what everyone else has. Velour sofa’s has been a big seller lately. If velour really isn’t your style, don’t buy it just because everyone else wants it. But, if you really like it – then go for it! Depending on if you have children or not, you’ll have to consider what fabric is the most practical when it comes to spilling and stains. Leather is really easy to clean. But, often can feel quite cold. Personally we prefer softer fabrics that makes it inviting to snuggle up.

Above are some photos of our new black velour sofa. We’re SO happy with it! We designed it our self. We choose the fabric, the colour, the style, the size and the layout of it. We’re so happy that we chose to go for this layout + a loose pouf that we can move around to where we want. It’s perfect for movie-nights, we can move the pouf to the corner as shown on the last photo above. That way we can both lay down together and totally relax. It’s perfect if we have a lot of people over, it can be moved to wherever you need an extra seat. Or you can keep it on one side and it’ll give you two places where you can put your feet up. One in the corner. And one where the pouf is placed.
We wanted a sofa for our living room that both could work when we have company over. And work for our movie-nights. And this one totally nailed it.
The fabric is unbelievable soft. The colour is dark matte black. It’s a tiny bit shiny when light shines on it. It’s really, really comfy to both lay down in and sit straight up. It’s high enough that our Robot Vacuum cleaner can drive under it. This was actually a must for us, since we make sure all furniture we buy are high enough. It’s just the perfect sofa for us!
