Largest Ski Resort In Norway
Trysil is one of the largest ski areas in whole Norway with its 65 km total slopes. They get 1.1 million payed days per year and that makes them the largest of all the ski resorts in the country. And they plan to get even bigger after the Scandinavian Mountains Airport opened just before Christmas. They offer a total of 68 pistes and 31 lifts.
Since I was a kid, we’ve been there to snowboard many winter and eastern vacations. Even though it’s not as big as the ski resorts in the alps, it’s still really big. There are many restaurants and bars, and some of them are even located in the middle of a piste. You can just swing by for a quick bite or a drink before you continue.
Close To Two Airports
Trysil is located just over 2 hours from Gardermoen Oslo Airport or only 40 minutes from Scandinavian Mountain Airport (which have flights from Stockholm, Gøteborg, Malmø, Ängelholm, Växjö, Copenhagen, Aalborg and London). Go ahead and book your flight by clicking here. The best choice when spending a few days in Trysil is to live as close as possible. For instance, check out the Radisson Blu Resort Trysil.
Fantastic Skiing & Snowboarding
As we mentioned in the beginning, Trysil Ski Resort has something for everyone. They have pistes for beginners and for the pro’s. For children and for the reckless! They get great powder conditions for everyone that love offpiste. And they have a great variety of pistes for those of you that prefer the prepared ones. They use a four colour system for how difficult their pistes are. You have Green: Very Easy, Blue: Easy, Red: Medium and Black: Expert. They have areas with every difficulties of pistes. So you can choose which area is the best one for you. Do you travel with your family and kids? Then the children areas with Green and Blue pistes are the best. Are you a pro, or Expert as they call the Black pistes? Then go visit the area with only Black pistes! If you go towards the top of the Trysil Mountain, you’ll get areas that are great for offpiste. If you’re lucky and wake up to fresh powder snow, get your boots on and get there before everyone else do! One of the great things about ski resorts in Norway compared to the alps, is that they aren’t that crowded. That means that you need to fight with less people over the fantastic powder snow. And you don’t need to wait that long in line.
Great Atmosphere
One thing that really struck me, after all the times I’ve visited Trysil, is how great the atmosphere in this place is. You’re met with a smile everywhere you go. Doesn’t matter if it’s in a restaurant, a bar, in the lift or with your fellow skiers and snowboarders in the piste. It might be because on vacation most people are happy and relaxed. Or because snow just generally makes you happy. That’s my best guess anyway. When it comes to all the people working there that makes more sense, they are of course working and not on vacation. Or, Trysil Ski Resort just is a great place to work. Trysil Ski Resort has 30 different dining options where you can enjoy a meal or après-ski in and around the pistes.
Family Friendly
Do you have kids? Bringing your family on a skiing vacation will be a memory for life. In Norway we’re all born with skis, and most of us ski all our life. Being in touch with nature and spending quality time with your family this way is amazing. Trysil Ski Resort has great facilities for children. I promise you- they will love it. Both “Turistsenteret” and “Høyfjellssenteret” have great areas for families. And if mom or dad wants to try out some more difficult pistes, you can easily get to those pistes and then return to the rest of your family after.
You Can Also Visit Sweden
If you’re visiting Norway for the first time, that’s exciting enough on it’s own. But, Trysil is very close to the Swedish border. So, if you’d like, you can visit two countries in one vacation! If you arrived at the Scandinavian Mountain Airport, that’s actually in Sweden just before the border. You can also go on day trips to Sweden, since it’s so close. We always drive to Sweden to buy candy and other groceries when we visit Trysil. So, get in your car and go explore Sweden as well!
We hope this post made you want to choose Trysil as your skiing and snowboarding destination for you up-coming ski vacation. We went there together for the first time in January this year. And for Pascal it was also really great. Can’t wait until we go back again!
