How to get to Münster

How to get there of course depends on where you’re coming from. But we’ll list up a few examples. From Bremen to Münster it’s just 2 hours to drive. From Amsterdam 2,5 hours. And from Düsseldorf it’s 1,5 hours. We lived as we already said in Twist, from Twist it’ll take you only 1 hour to drive. The best option is if you drive by car. You can park in one of the parking garages in the middle of the city. We parked so that when we exited the garage, we were immediately in the middle of the Christmas Market.

Locations and stalls

In the historic Old Town in Münster you can find five squares, with a total of 300 stalls. It’s truly a romantic and wonderful stroll through the town from square to square. All the lights and Christmas decorations are unbelievable beautiful. And it feels like walking in a fairy tale.

When to go

Münster Christmas Market is open from 25 Nov – 23 Dec. Sun – Thu 11am – 8pm. Fri – Sat 11am – 9pm. We arrived around 3 pm on a Sunday, and it was just starting to get dark. While we were there it got completely dark, and we could truly enjoy all the Christmas lights. We recommend you to go from this time and later, because in daylight it’s really not the same.

Things to do

First of all; Enjoy! If you love Christmas, you’ll also love this Christmas Market. While walking around looking at all the different stalls, you should drink Glühwein and eat a bratwurst to get the true German feeling.

Do you have kids? Then they will also love it. There are carousels for them to ride. And hot chocolate milk. And candy stalls.

General info about Christmas Markets in Germany

To get into the Christmas spirit it’s great to go to a magical Christmas Market. Germany first started to have Christmas Markets in 1310, and they first started out as winter markets. Since then they have become world famous for them. In general, both Germany and the Netherlands have markets at all times of the year. And for me as Norwegian it’s so nice to go to these! If we ever live in the Netherlands, I’d love to do all my groceries shopping at markets instead of supermarkets.

In a Christmas Market you can buy just about everything. You find a lot of handcraft and Christmas stars and decorations. But we also saw a stall selling Christmas dog treats(!) and dog leashes. One that had different types of homemade food like honey and jams. One with leather and purses. And one selling kids’ toys.
